Our trip began at the Chapel with a wonderful time of prayer together as the body of Christ. It was a beautiful picture to see families holding hands with other families as the North Carolina (NC) team was sent down to the small town of Weaverville, NC. Weaverville is right outside of Asheville, NC and we are staying at an old school building that has been turned into the Recreation Experiences headquarters. Recreation Experiences mission is to share their Christian faith through home repair. To that end, we will be doing a large digging project this year. We learned that we are going to be digging septic pipelines and a septic tank hold for a lady that lives in a trailer. She was actually arrested because her property was not up to proper sanitation code. Her court date is this Tuesday and so she will be out taking picture tomorrow to show the court that she is in the process of fixing the sanitation process. You all can pray that we are able to help her save her house and allow her to keep living in her home. It is going to be an exciting project that the entire team is ready to be a part of starting tomorrow morning.
We had a smooth day of travel and it is always great to have seven hours of intentional bonding time on the buses and van. It was great to already hear stories from leaders about conversations they are starting to have with their small group kids and to watch the kids get to know each other better as well. We look forward to watching these relationships grow and watch God work through as the week continues on. However, that's it for Day 1, but we will be up bright and early for breakfast and morning worship. Then we head straight to our first day at the work site.
Be sure to check back again tomorrow for another update!
