After departing the Chapel with your excited kids, we spent the day traveling down to our housing site in Weaverville, NC. The bus ride is such a wonderful time of intentional relationship building in which your kids have the opportunity to spend time conversing with their leaders and fellow middle schoolers. God works through these relationships the rest of the week and so the time spent on the bus is a very important foundation to set. Once we arrived at our housing site it was time to get ready for bed and go to sleep so that we would be fully energized to serve tomorrow.
ReCreation Experiences' property is a school building that they have turned into their headquarters for all of their work projects throughout the year. It is a great site with plenty of space to house our group. ReCreation Experiences' mission statement is to share their faith through home repair. Tomorrow we will begin our work project in which we will be painting two neighboring houses. Our "clients", as they call them here, are local residents that are categorized as the "working poor". The "working poor" are a group of people that have jobs, but do not make enough money to cover all of their basic expenses. Usually the expense that falls at the bottom of the list of priorities is home repair and so we have the opportunity to serve these people by offering our services free of charge. It has been a great first day and make sure you check back tomorrow morning for our next blog update about all that God did on day 2.
God Bless,
The SM Staff Team
